Writing the B-School Apps
Is this process insane or what?
Why do I need to bare my soul in front of the B-schools of the world? Where do I fit the essay writing process into my 18 hour workdays? Can’t they just take a peek into my mind and figure things out for themselves (and they claim they are smart)? Oh and I haven’t even started about the GMAT. In the midst of all this you want me to….what….write an exam???
This is preposterous! How dare you ask the advisor to CEOs; the mentor to aspiring consultants; the protege to world leaders; the superman of Powerpoint; the conqueror of Excel; and the saviour of the Emerging Economy to prove his mettle in trivial algebra and punctuation? Never have I faced a bigger insult…ever!
What??? You want me to get you letters of recommendation? Don’t you ever watch CNN you imbecilic moron? If you don’t know me already, your school is not a place I want to be!
That was the ANALyst’s two minute rant on the mountain of work that lies in front of him as this bedouin tries to prepare for the next step in the journey called life.
Buddy – I agree. Just finished a notional two week leave to write my essays. People ask me how much I have done, and I confidently say “I’ve locked the narrative down”. I don’t even know what that means.
BTW – don’t sweat the GMAT – as long as you don’t do it the friday after working til 2am every night (CI attempt 1), then you will be fine.
Thanks for the encouragement. Are you applying for R1 or R2?
And yeah my GMAT is on a Tuesday next month. Will probably take the Monday off!
R2 – I had intended to do Round 1, but projects intervened.
Good luck!
I got my first round interviews tomorrow, wish me luck.
Well, good luck!!! Tell us how you go!
Unfortunately, i didn’t make it. I received feedback on friday afternoon. I am very proud of my performance, but it was not enough. They said my personality was great, loved my leadership and group experiences, but i had trouble synthesizing at the end of the cases.
I was a bit sad of not making it, but, life goes on and now i’ll have to put all i’ve got into plan B. I’ll be applying to ivy league schools in financial engineering. Deadline for most schools is Dec 1st. I’ve got the GRE coming up next week and the TOEFL.
Best of luck in your B-School application. Btw, i love the blog.
Oh well, these things happen. Consulting is not the end of the world (it could be the beginning of the end though :p). And do not take the rejection as a reflection of your ability – it is not.
But good luck with the financial engineering application – it sounds like an interesting course.
How do you intend to finance your b-school ? Are your sponsored by your current work or something?
As i’ve said, i’m currently looking at the top schools in the states, but they do not come cheap! I’m also finding this very difficult, as my bank is not willing to finance this since this implies that i will be studying abroad. The only solution we’ve found is to remortgage the house, which is a bit insane.
How do you plan on managing all this ?
Jay,
Short answer – I don’t know.
Longer answers – Will have to look for loans/scholarships. Haven’t thought about that aspect yet.
